Writer Lauren J. Salkin has filed a lawsuit accusing Taylor Sheridan of stealing the concept for his hit series “Yellowstone.” The lawsuit, filed Friday, also names 101 Studios, Paramount, and Elevate Entertainment as defendants.
According to Variety, Salkin alleges that Sheridan misappropriated her 2016 pitch. The series “Yellowstone” follows the Dutton family and their ranch in Montana, and has become a major success for Paramount Network.
Representatives for Taylor Sheridan, 101 Studios, Paramount, and Elevate Entertainment have not yet responded to requests for comment from Variety regarding the allegations. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the alleged copyright infringement. The filing initiates a legal battle over the origins of the popular television show and the intellectual property rights associated with its creation.
