Porsche has released an updated version of the 911 GT3 Touring, maintaining its focus on a lighter weight and driver-centric experience. The new model retains the naturally aspirated 4.0 L flat-six engine, but incorporates changes to meet stricter European emissions regulations.
The GT3 occupies a unique position within the 911 lineup, prioritizing driving experience over the power and luxury found in models like the Turbo S. Porsche expanded the GT3 formula with the GT3 RS in 2003 and the GT3 Touring in 2017, and more recently the GT3 S/C. The GT3 Touring distinguishes itself by replacing the fixed rear wing of the standard GT3 with the deployable spoiler from the Carrera, creating a subtler aesthetic without sacrificing performance hardware.
The latest 992.2 GT3 Touring continues this design philosophy. Its 4.0 L flat-six engine still produces 502 hp (375 kW) and spins to 9,000 rpm, sending power to the rear wheels via either a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. Standard features include massive brakes, rear-axle steering, a GT3-specific suspension, and an active sport exhaust.
However, the new model’s engine produces 331 lb-ft (449 Nm) of torque—15 pound-feet less than the outgoing model. This reduction is due to the addition of two catalytic converters and two gas particulate filters to comply with stricter European emissions and noise regulations. To counteract the resulting flow restriction, Porsche engineers utilized cylinder heads and camshafts from the GT3 RS to maintain peak horsepower. They also shortened the final-drive ratio by 8 percent, trading some top speed for increased acceleration.
