Franck Kessie has explained his decision to join Atalanta this summer, despite strong interest from Juventus. Kessie stated the move was “a choice of the heart” and an “easy decision.” He had been widely expected to sign with Juventus as a free agent, and reportedly came close to an agreement before ultimately choosing a return to his former club.
Juventus had been prepared to make an exception to their usual transfer policy to sign Kessie, who previously played in the Saudi Pro League. The Bianconeri were keen to add the experienced midfielder to their squad, and Kessie had been waiting for them to offload players to create space for him. However, before Juventus could return with a better offer, Kessie was announced as an Atalanta player.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Kessie said: “It's normal that when you're free, there are lots of teams interested in you. I spoke to other teams, but when Atalanta came along, I had no doubts. It was a choice of the heart, an easy decision.” He emphasized that returning to Atalanta, where he began his European career, was a significant personal factor in his decision. Juventus will miss out on adding an experienced midfielder, while Kessie will return to a familiar environment.
