A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by consumers seeking to block the $111 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín ruled Wednesday that the plaintiffs – three current Paramount+ subscribers and two prospective subscribers – lacked standing to bring the suit.
The judge determined the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate they had suffered or would imminently suffer a direct injury as a result of the merger. According to the ruling, “Plaintiffs’ standing theory amounts to little more than a generalized grievance.” However, Judge Martínez-Olguín has allowed the group to file a revised complaint.
