Ishan Kishan scored an unbeaten 111 runs to put East Zone in a strong position on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also impressed with a quick 44.
Teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan led the charge for East Zone. Sooryavanshi scored 44 off 37 balls, including boundaries off MD Nidhees and Mohammed Siraj, before being dismissed by Chama Milind. East Zone raced to 50 in 7.5 overs and 100 in 14.3 overs.
Kishan, batting at No. 5, reached his 10th first-class century, finishing the day unbeaten on 111 off 135 balls (14x4, 1x6). He reached his half-century off 71 balls and accelerated, scoring his second fifty in just 51 balls. He completed his century off 122 balls, driving veteran leggie Shreyas Gopal, playing his 100th First-Class match, for a boundary.
Kumar Kushagra supported Kishan with an unbeaten 63 off 75 balls (4x4, 5x6), and the pair formed an unbeaten 144-run fifth-wicket partnership. Earlier, Abhimanyu Easwaran contributed 72 runs off 86 balls before being run out. East Zone closed the day at 385-4 in 79 overs. Mohammed Siraj conceded 41 runs in five overs during an expensive opening spell. Chama Milind took 2-56.
