Huawei has released the Watch D3, a smartwatch with a built-in inflatable blood pressure cuff. The device aims to provide more detailed heart health tracking than other smartwatches by offering both on-demand and continuous blood pressure readings.
The Huawei Watch D3 features a 1.92-inch AMOLED screen with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The watch is 0.44 inches (11.3mm) thick and weighs 1.41 ounces (40 grams). Huawei has redesigned the watchband to include a narrower airbag, available in Mocha Gold, Gold, and Black, for improved comfort and aesthetics.
The watch functions similarly to a traditional blood pressure cuff, and supports Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM), measuring blood pressure at set intervals over 24 hours while also tracking pulse data. It can also remind users to take readings before/after workouts or when environmental factors like elevation or temperature change. Beyond blood pressure monitoring, the Watch D3 includes standard smartwatch features like workout and sleep tracking.
Huawei’s approach differs from competitors like Apple and Google, which focus on tracking blood pressure *trends* to avoid regulatory scrutiny related to determining specific systolic and diastolic measurements. Vital Signals is also pursuing detailed readings with different sensors and algorithms. Huawei aims to closely replicate the experience of professional blood pressure monitoring.
The Huawei Watch D3 is priced at £400 (approximately $540), but will not be available in the U.S. due to existing restrictions on the company’s products.
