Earlier in the day, Elena Rybakina defeated two-time champion Naomi Osaka, also reaching the quarter-finals and improving her chances of becoming world number one. The progress of Gauff and Rybakina ensures that the top six seeds have reached the US Open women's last eight for the first time since 1998, highlighting the strength of the WTA Tour. Former world number five Daniela Hantuchova commented on BBC Radio 5 Live, stating, “The women's field is in such a healthy, strong position. It's one of those tournaments where anyone can take it from here.”
The quarter-final lineup also includes reigning Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen.
