The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated starting pitcher Corbin Burnes from the 60-day injured list. Burnes is returning to the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair an elbow injury. He is scheduled to start Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals.
Burnes, in his second season with Arizona, signed a six-year, $210 million deal with the team ahead of the 2025 season, which includes an opt-out after this season. Prior to his injury, he had made 11 starts, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA. He had previously stated he was hoping for an aggressive recovery and a return during the All-Star break.
The right-handed pitcher began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, winning the 2021 NL Cy Young Award with a record of 11-5 and a 2.43 ERA while striking out 234 batters in 167 innings. He also spent a year with the Baltimore Orioles before joining the Diamondbacks. Over his eight-year career, Burnes has a 63-38 record in 210 games.
Arizona also announced the addition of pitcher Kade Strowo from its Triple-A affiliate, while optioning pitchers Gerardo Carrillo and Jose Cabrera. The Diamondbacks currently hold a 77-68 record, placing them in second in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, and are in the third NL Wild Card spot with a half-game lead over the San Diego Padres. Eduardo Rodriguez leads the Diamondbacks' rotation with a 15-5 record and a 2.55 ERA.
