A copy of the Declaration of Independence has been discovered in the United Kingdom's National Archives. The document was found by Michael Scurr, a volunteer who has been cataloging documents at the archives for 11 years.
The discovery occurred while Mr. Scurr was working on Thursday mornings to catalogue documents, according to reports. The Declaration of Independence copy was attached to a report detailing the capture of the American privateer Dalton on Christmas Eve, 1776.
The document’s finding comes ahead of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
