The Los Angeles Chargers' first-team offense has struggled during the preseason, raising concerns as new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel takes the helm. The unit has failed to sustain drives in its first two preseason appearances, including a recent 20-18 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Chargers’ first-team offense was stalled in its initial two series of the preseason. They then went three-and-out against the San Francisco 49ers before being substituted. In a 20-18 preseason loss on Thursday, Aug. 28, against the Rams, the offense got off to an even worse start. Quarterback Justin Herbert botched a shotgun snap on his second play, which was recovered by Rams undrafted rookie safety Nick Andersen.
The turnover occurred against a Rams defense comprised of reserve players and those competing for roster spots. This poor start is particularly noteworthy given McDaniel’s arrival as the Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, after being a hot commodity during the offseason’s coaching search.
The team will debut a new uniform combination this season, pairing the gold “Charger Power” jersey with white pants in Week 13 against the Buccaneers. The Chargers also have the all-navy “Super Chargers” retros as a potential uniform option.
