France’s Cassandre Beaugrand secured her fourth consecutive victory in the World Triathlon Championship Series in Weihai, China, with Britain’s Beth Potter finishing second. Switzerland’s Max Studer won the men’s race.
Beaugrand finished the race in one minute 49.20 seconds, surging ahead in the final kilometer of the 10km run. Potter trailed six seconds behind, while Germany’s Lisa Tertsch placed third, 18 seconds after Beaugrand. “This one was definitely not easy,” Beaugrand stated. “I was feeling great on the swim, great on the bike. The run was quite hard with Beth pushing the pace. I just tried my best to keep up and trust my finish.”
Beaugrand was third after the 1500m swim, behind Britain’s Tilly Anema and Brazil’s Vittoria Lopez. The cycling portion saw a lead pack of over 30 athletes, before Beaugrand, Potter, and Tertsch began to pull away during the running phase. Potter valiantly attempted to match Beaugrand’s pace in the final lap but could not keep up.
In the men’s race, Max Studer completed the course in 1:41:08. Spain’s David Cantero del Campo finished 10 seconds behind him, and Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk was third, seven seconds after Cantero del Campo.
The next regular-season event is scheduled for September 13th in the Czech Republic, followed by the Grand Final in Spain on September 23rd.
