Barcelona’s recent acquisition of 18-year-old Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge for €8 million is already yielding positive results, according to reports. The club has implemented a development plan to integrate the young player into the first-team environment while allowing him to gain regular playing time with Barça Atletic.
Deco, a Barcelona official, invested in Bisiwu despite his unproven status, believing in his potential to become a key first-team player. Bisiwu’s playing time at Club Brugge had decreased after he refused to renew his contract. During a friendly match in Basel, Bisiwu scored twice, showcasing his finishing ability. He further impressed with Barça Atletic against Reus, demonstrating a level of play that appeared above the competition.
Barcelona is focused on Bisiwu’s development both on and off the field. The club is addressing a bureaucratic issue preventing his official first-team debut. Recognizing this is Bisiwu’s first professional experience outside of Belgium, Barcelona has facilitated his family’s relocation to the area near the training complex to ensure a comfortable transition.
Bisiwu is currently eligible to represent both Belgium and Ghana at the international level, but that decision has been postponed to allow him to focus on his club performance. If he continues to perform well, coach Hansi Flick is expected to integrate him into the first team regularly. Barcelona hopes the investment will prove to be a bargain in the coming years.
