Alanis Morissette is suing her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, alleging a “calculated blackmail campaign.” The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, stems from their working relationship in 2025. Morissette claims Urinov attempted to extort her with threats of legal action and accusations of drug trafficking.
The suit alleges that Urinov was “flagged for inspection and detained at a U.K. airport” while traveling with Morissette to Spain. Authorities allegedly found marijuana and xylazine in her bag, but Urinov presented an Israeli medical marijuana license and was released. Following the incident, Urinov and her legal team allegedly sent Morissette “increasingly extortionate” letters, demanding a 15-year, full-time employment contract with a salary equivalent to a tour director, including annual increases and bonuses.
According to the lawsuit, when Morissette did not comply, Urinov’s lawyer sent a letter “implying she would accuse Morissette of drug trafficking.” Morissette is pursuing allegations of civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. This is not the first time Morissette has been the victim of financial misconduct; her former manager, Jonathan Todd Schwartz, admitted to embezzling over $7 million from Morissette and other clients in 2017, later issuing an apology essay in The Hollywood Reporter.
