PULLMAN – Washington State University’s (WSU) defensive line demonstrated significant strength and coordination during the fifth day of fall camp on August 11th. The unit overwhelmed the offensive line, consistently disrupting plays through a variety of techniques.
The Cougars' defensive line appeared particularly effective when executing complex maneuvers. According to yahoo_sports, when “at its best, when players are zigging and zagging and swimming and powering through,” the defensive line resembled “a tidal wave.” This allowed them to pressure offensive linemen from both the first and second teams, as well as tight ends providing extra protection.
The intensity of the defensive line’s performance also impacted running backs attempting to assist in pass protection. The source noted that even efforts by running backs to “chip block” and provide time for their quarterback were insufficient against the aggressive front.
