Watertown, South Jefferson Denied in Section 3 Girls Lacrosse Finals

The South Jefferson and Watertown girls lacrosse teams entered Thursday night with high hopes of successfully defending their Section 3 titles and returning to the state playoffs. Both programs, however, were turned away in their respective finals.

The championship games were held in Cortland. Both South Jefferson and Watertown mounted comeback attempts during their matchups, but each team came up short in their efforts to secure victory.

In one of the contests, Watertown rallied in a close finish that went down to the wire. The team came storming back to take the lead in the final minutes of play.

Neither South Jefferson nor Watertown were able to repeat as Section 3 champions. Both teams had entered Thursday's action aiming to defend their titles and advance to the state playoff tournament, but both saw those championship aspirations denied in their respective finals.
