The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow construction to resume on a $400 million White House ballroom project while it appeals a lower court's order to halt the work.
The request follows an appeals court ruling that the project lacked necessary approval from Congress. In its filing, the administration argued that the project is "vitally required by national security" and stated that forcing the president to go "hat-in-hand to Congress" for permission would be "dangerous."
To facilitate the project, President Trump tore down the White House East Wing. Whether the Supreme Court will grant the request to bypass the lower court's halt remains the central point of the current legal challenge.
