Studiocanal has launched a new label, Studiocanal Classics, dedicated to its extensive catalogue of films. The initiative will focus on restoring classic feature films, including titles like ‘Terminator 2’ and ‘Manhunter.’
The new worldwide catalogue label, Studiocanal Classics, draws on a library of over 18,000 titles, which the company describes as the largest film library outside of the United States. The library represents 100 years of film history. Studiocanal is investing in the preservation and enhancement of these films to ensure their continued availability and quality.
As part of the launch, Studiocanal has already invested €25 million ($29 million) into 4K restorations of nearly 1,000 classic feature films. Among the films receiving this treatment are James Cameron’s ‘Terminator 2,’ Michael Mann’s ‘Manhunter,’ and a retrospective of the works of Jacques Tati. The company did not state a specific timeline for the completion of all restorations, but the initial investment indicates a long-term commitment to preserving cinematic history.
