A print by Pablo Picasso, stolen from a Milwaukee gallery in 2018, was discovered last week by a landlord cleaning out a vacant apartment. Bill DeLind, the gallery owner, had presumed the artwork lost and was contacted by police to verify its authenticity after the discovery. The landlord found the piece while clearing the property and turned it over to authorities.
The etching had been stolen from DeLind’s gallery eight years ago. He immediately recognized it when police asked him to examine the recovered work. No information has been released regarding how the artwork ended up in the vacant apartment, or whether any suspects have been identified. The Milwaukee Police Department is continuing its investigation into the theft and recovery of the Picasso print.
