A teenage student shot and killed at least six people – including his grandparents – and injured fifteen others at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Nonthaburi province north of Bangkok before taking his own life. Authorities report the suspect began the attack by shooting his grandparents at their home prior to arriving at the school on Friday.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of three teachers and three students, according to police. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party, stated the incident “serves as another wake-up call to Thai society,” calling for systematic gun control measures and enhanced security at schools.
Thailand has an estimated 10 million firearms in circulation – roughly one per seven inhabitants. While the motive remains unclear, this shooting adds to concerns about access to weapons within the country. No right-leaning outlets reported on the incident among the sources reviewed.
