Singer Duncan Sheik, known for his hit “Barely Breathing,” is currently hospitalized and in critical but stable condition. A statement released on his Instagram page Wednesday announced his hospitalization but did not disclose specific medical details.
According to social media posts, Sheik has been in and out of the hospital recently. On August 20, he shared a photo stating, “I would prefer to be home making music. But a bit of reflection is not too bad … boring hospital stays have their benefits (outside the obvious).” Earlier this month, he posted a selfie acknowledging his continued hospital stay.
The hospitalization comes as Sheik prepares for the opening of “Memoirs of Amorous Gentleman,” a musical for which he composed the score. The first preview is scheduled for September 25, with the official opening on October 15. He is also the composer for the Broadway show “Spring Awakening,” which is set to begin previews off-Broadway this fall. “Spring Awakening” originally debuted in 2006, running for 859 performances and winning eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It was last revived in 2015.
The Instagram statement concluded, “We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time and will provide updates when appropriate. Thank you for the continued love and support.”
