Sakanishi Miiku Debuts 'Memorizu' at Tribeca Festival
Director Sakanishi Miiku has been thinking about forgetting for most of his life. This enduring contemplation forms the basis of his debut feature film, titled “Memorizu.” The film is scheduled to have its world premiere in competition at the Tribeca Festival. The premiere is set for June 6.
Following its screening at the festival, “Memorizu” is planned for a theatrical release in Japan later in June. The film's narrative centers on a protagonist named Yuta. Yuta travels to a rural town in Kyushu. His journey is motivated by the need to help his father-in-law, who is an ailing photographer.
The project brings Sakanishi’s long-held reflections on memory and forgetting to the screen. The story explores the dynamics between Yuta and his father-in-law within the specific setting of rural Kyushu. The selection for the Tribeca Festival marks a significant debut for the filmmaker.
