São Paulo’s under-17 team was defeated 2-0 by Athletico-PR in the semifinal of the FIFA Youth Club World Cup on Monday, February 7th. The match took place at Estadio Ciudad de Lucena in Lucena, Spain.
The opening ten minutes of the match saw São Paulo, coached by Alexandre Torrezan, dominate play and create several attacking opportunities. In the first minute, João Bispo passed to Aguilar, who shot from outside the box, but the opposing goalkeeper saved it. Zabarelli also attempted a long-range shot in the seventh minute, which was also saved.
Athletico-PR opened the scoring in the 26th minute and extended their lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute of the second half, securing their place in the final of the international tournament. Despite creating further chances in the second half, São Paulo was unable to score and was eliminated from the competition.
