Comedian Russell Howard and his wife, Dr. Cerys Morgan, have revealed their baby son, Felix, died shortly after birth earlier this year. The couple, who had not publicly announced the pregnancy, shared the news on Friday and announced the launch of The Felix Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting families affected by miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death, or related bereavement.
The couple praised the compassionate care they received from hospital staff, particularly a bereavement midwife named Lauren, who had experienced a similar loss and retrained to support other families. They described being able to spend precious hours with Felix in a cool cot, holding and speaking to him. The experience led them to promise each other they would help other families facing similar circumstances.
The Felix Foundation will focus on supporting specialist bereavement care training for midwives through yearly grants, funding emotional and practical assistance for families, and providing dedicated spaces within hospitals. To raise funds, Howard is organizing a Stand-Up Gala at London’s O2 Arena in February, featuring performances from Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, John Bishop, and Mo Gilligan, all donating their time free of charge.
