A partial solar eclipse will be visible across the United Kingdom on August 12, with up to 96% of the sun obscured – the deepest eclipse the country has seen since 1999 and not expected again until 2081. The event is also a total solar eclipse in parts of Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and Portugal.
With specialist eclipse glasses sold out in many shops, those wishing to view the phenomenon may find it difficult to do so safely. Experts are advising people to avoid looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection. However, several methods using household items can be used as alternatives to protect eyes during viewing.
The upcoming eclipse is significant because it will be the closest totality seen from the UK since 1999. No right-leaning outlets reported on this event.
