Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan has made several roster moves, including releasing third-year inside linebacker Trevin Wallace and veteran wide receiver David Moore. According to reports, the Panthers waived Wallace, a 2024 third-round pick, on Sunday. He had been a two-year starter but failed to secure his position in training camp, losing out to Claudin Cherelus. ESPN’s Mike Kaye wrote: “The Panthers waived 2024 third-round pick Trevin Wallace on Sunday, leaving them with three inside linebackers before the arrival of veteran Bobby Okereke, who agreed to terms Saturday.” Kaye also noted Wallace “didn't live up to his potential” and “didn't create any separation” in the competition for a starting role.
The Panthers also released veteran wide receiver David Moore. While head coach Dave Canales praised Moore’s performance in practice and noted their prior working relationship in Seattle and Tampa Bay, Moore’s on-field contribution was deemed insufficient, especially considering the potential of other receivers who were cut to make room for him. Morgan’s strategy, which included drafting an offensive tackle in the first round and signing Rasheed Walker in free agency, has been praised. The team is also considering further cuts, potentially including 2024 fourth-round tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders and 2023 fourth-round offensive lineman Chandler Zavala.
