A brand-new 35mm print of Katsuhiro Ôtomo's "Akira" has been created, marking the first such print in decades. The film will debut at BFI Southbank in London before touring cinemas across the U.K. and Ireland.
The new print was struck from a 4K master by distributor Anime Limited. It is noteworthy as being the first new 35mm print of “Akira” created anywhere in the world for decades, according to the announcement.
The film will premiere at BFI Southbank, London, between August 14th and 19th. Following this initial run, Anime Limited plans a tour of selected cinemas throughout both the U.K. and Ireland. Specific locations and dates for the wider tour have not yet been announced.
