Netflix says it has contributed more than $325 billion to the global economy over the last 10 years, a period that began with a dramatic expansion of its streaming service. The company made the claim as it launched a new website dedicated to highlighting its economic and cultural influence.
The milestone coincides with the 10-year anniversary of Netflix's massive global rollout. In January 2016, the streaming giant extended its service to an additional 130 countries and territories, bringing its total reach to more than 190 countries and territories virtually overnight.
Now, a decade later, the company is touting what it calls “The Netflix Effect” — the economic impact and cultural influence it says it has generated since that expansion. According to Netflix, the figure exceeds $325 billion in contributions to the global economy during that timeframe.
