National Geographic’s new seven-part series, *Africa: Earth’s Wild Home*, will premiere on October 2 at 8 p.m. ET on the National Geographic Channel and will be available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. The series, presented by Rolex, took four years to film across nearly 30 countries and utilizes “cutting-edge CGI to unearth the deep history and forces that shaped Africa’s natural worlds.”
The series features footage of several species never before captured on television, including black rain frogs, hyenas hunting elephants in the Congo, a rare wild African black panther, and chimpanzees using tools to fish for algae. Each episode will conclude with an “Explorer Spotlight” highlighting the work of scientists, photographers, and National Geographic Explorers, including Steve Boyes, Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, Matt Shirley, and Ingi Agnarsson.
Wunmi Mosaku executive produced and narrates *Africa: Earth’s Wild Home*. According to Courteney Monroe, president of National Geographic, the series “captures them through breathtaking, blue-chip landmark natural history storytelling” and “reveals never-before-seen behaviors” while also celebrating “the remarkable ways life adapts and thrives.” The final episode focuses on the humans working to protect Africa’s wildlife.
The series marks the beginning of an “ambitious multi-year franchise” from National Geographic that will document the planet continent by continent, at a time when the planet is undergoing rapid change. National Geographic and Rolex have collaborated on conservation efforts for over 70 years.
