NASA has awarded a Launch Services (NLS) II contract to Relativity Space Inc., adding its Terran R launch service to the agency’s options for future missions. Joshua Finch and Jimi Russell at NASA Headquarters announced the contract, which utilizes the NLS II contract’s on-ramp provision.
The NLS II contracts are multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreements. The ordering period extends through June 2030, with an overall period of performance lasting through December 2032. This on-ramp provision allows new launch service providers, like Relativity Space, to compete for missions annually, and existing contractors to introduce new launch vehicles.
The addition of Terran R supports the goals of NASA’s Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate, Science Mission Directorate, and the Research and Technology Mission Directorate. NASA can also utilize the contract to provide launch services to other government agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The NASA Launch Services Program Office at Kennedy Space Center in Florida manages the NLS II contracts. Amanda Griffin at Kennedy Space Center also contributed to the announcement.
