NASA Ames Fire Department to Conduct Aircraft Fire Training

The fire department at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley will conduct aircraft firefighting training at Moffett Federal Airfield from September 8 through September 11. Jeanne Neal of the Ames Research Center stated the training is intended to prepare Ames’ first responders to respond to realistic aircraft firefighting scenarios.

The training will take place daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. PDT and will utilize a propane-fueled aircraft fire simulator. Due to the use of propane, very little smoke is expected, though flames may be visible to drivers on U.S. Highway 101.
