Lucy Dacus will perform a final show at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, marking the end of her ‘Forever Is a Feeling’ album cycle. This follows a previous orchestral performance in Chicago and a Boygenius performance at the same venue three years prior.
Dacus described the show as the culmination of the ‘Forever Is a Feeling’ era, stating, “It’s the last show of ‘Forever Is a Feeling,’ and I really don’t have many plans ongoingly, which kind of freaks me out.” She explained that she needs to mentally conclude the era to begin creating new music, anticipating a highly emotional performance. A billboard reading “Forever Is Over” has been posted to signal the end of the album cycle.
Having previously performed an orchestral show in Chicago, Dacus feels more prepared for the Hollywood Bowl performance. She learned that orchestral musicians often sight-read the material on the day of the performance, a contrast to her band’s week-long rehearsal process. “I learned a lot,” she said. “I never realized that the musicians don’t look at the material until the day-of…and they’re all just pros and they’re sight reading.” She also took singing lessons to adjust her technique for performing with an orchestra, aiming to avoid being “completely swallowed by them.”
The Hollywood Bowl holds additional significance for Dacus as it was the site of Boygenius’s final performance three years ago. Beyond music, Dacus also mentioned her involvement in presiding over weddings and performing for Mayor Mandani’s inauguration.
