The Locarno film festival’s industry branch is addressing critical issues facing the film world, including artificial intelligence and market consolidation. The festival will also spotlight Uruguay and host its investment community.
Markus Duffner, director of Locarno Pro, explained the timeliness of this year's focus on “power, people, data.” He highlighted concerns surrounding "algorithms and consolidation versus creative freedom." This initiative aims to explore how these forces are impacting filmmakers and the industry as a whole.
The festival will also see the return of the Locarno Investment Community, providing a platform for financing film projects. Additionally, Uruguay has been selected as the country receiving special attention at this year’s event.
