South Korea’s box office experienced a significant recovery in the first half of 2026, driven primarily by local films. Total industry revenue reached KRW579 billion ($399.1 million) with 57.05 million admissions.
The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) released figures showing a substantial increase compared to the previous year. Revenue is up 41.9% and admissions increased by 34.2%. The growth is attributed to the success of local titles, which accounted for the bulk of the revenue.
Specifically, Korean-film revenue totaled KRW370.2 billion. ‘The King’s Warden’ was a leading contributor to this positive trend, spearheading Korea's best first half box office performance since the pandemic began.
