KDE developers are focused on polishing Plasma 6.8 and initiating work on Plasma 6.9. The Plasma 6.8 beta currently has five known regressions. These issues relate to the logout screen losing focus, misaligned notifications, misaligned logout/restart/shutdown overlays in multi-monitor setups, and the behavior of the “Switch User” function.
Recent changes to Plasma 6.8 include improvements to the Kup backup solution, which now displays elapsed time and more accurate average speed information. KDE desktop portal dialogs have also been refined. The system will no longer write to a cache file with each notification, improving performance.
Bug fixes have been implemented for both Plasma 6.7.6 and 6.8. Plasma 6.7.6 addresses a KWin crash that could occur when returning to a game using Alt + Tab. Plasma 6.8 fixes a KWin crash related to interacting with titlebar buttons.
Development for Plasma 6.9 is underway, with a focus on ensuring standard warnings and confirmations appear when renaming files or folders on the desktop. This includes alerts for hiding files/folders and changing file types/extensions.
