The Hungary Grand Slam judo tournament concluded at the Papp László Arena with Guilherme Schmidt, Mao Izumi, Gennaro Pirelli, and Raz Hershko claiming gold medals. Valerii Endovitskii also secured a victory in the +100Kg category.
Brazil’s Guilherme Schmidt won the -90kg title, marking his third Grand Slam victory. His medal was awarded by Minister of Interior of Hungary, H.E. Mr Gábor PÓSFAI.
In the -78kg category, Japan’s Mao Izumi faced Croatia’s Petrunjela Pavic in Pavic’s debut Grand Slam final. Pavic won her first Grand Slam gold with a huge Obi-tori-gaeshi. “I was feeling really good. My teammates are here cheering me on. It feels great, I finished in style, just no other words, just great,” Pavic stated. IOC Member Mrs Aïcha GARAD ALI awarded the medals.
Gennaro Pirelli of Italy secured his second consecutive Grand Slam gold in the -100Kg division after a technical battle. Pirelli said, “This place is very nice. Yesterday I talked with my coach, the objective was to have fun today. I'm very happy.” Member of the National Assembly of Hungary, Dr Krisztián KULCSÁR presented the medals.
Raz Hershko, competing in her 17th Grand Slam Final, defeated France’s Celia Cancan in the +78KG category, earning her 7th Grand Slam Gold with a Harai Goshi. IOC Member, Ms Yael ARAD awarded the medals. Valerii Endovitskii dominated the +100Kg final, securing his 4th Grand Slam Gold with two yuko scores. The medals were awarded by President of the International Judo Federation, Mr Marius VIZER. The tournament is described as having provided fans with unforgettable moments and lifetime memories, with the next event scheduled in Baku for the World Championships.
