The Peabody Awards jury has announced that 34 winners were chosen to receive this year’s prizes. Among the selected honorees was the late-night program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The winners were recognized during a ceremony held on Sunday night, where the show's host addressed the audience.
Jimmy Kimmel joked during his acceptance speech that he “never felt dumber” receiving the award alongside documentaries and news programs. He acknowledged the gravity of his fellow winners, citing works that “exposed the horrors of ice, prison abuse and a teacher who took on Putin.” In his remarks, Kimmel also thanked Donald Trump, whom he referred to as “Pumpkin McPornhumper.”
Tony Gilroy, the creator of the series “Andor,” also spoke at the event. He used the platform to urge the crowd to take on fascism before it is too late. Gilroy concluded his address with a direct reference to his show's themes, stating, “F— the Empire.”
