The protester was interrupting Vance as attendees chanted “USA! USA!”. Vance told the protester he would buy a plane ticket to Mexico, and the protester was subsequently removed from the convention. The incident occurred as Vance spoke about the “birthright” of American citizens.
The Washington Times reported the protester threw the flag at the stage, while Breitbart News reported Vance’s full quote: “Well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your a– over there. I’ll buy you the plane ticket.” NDTV also reported on Vance’s offer to pay for the protester’s travel. Vance began his speech by paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, a close friend who was assassinated a year prior, telling Kirk’s children that history would remember their father as “a great man.”
