Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the reigning Super Bowl champion and first-team All-Pro wide receiver, revealed that despite growing up a fan of Texas A&M, he ultimately preferred to play for either Texas or Oklahoma. His preference emerged after attending the Red River Rivalry in middle school.
Smith-Njigba, a Rockwall, Texas native, committed to Ohio State, where he became a standout player, recording 96 receptions for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns in the 2021 season, ultimately leading to his first-round NFL Draft status. He explained that while he was a fan of the Aggies, his experience at the Red River Rivalry shifted his college allegiance.
The Texas Longhorns, then coached by Tom Herman, reportedly made a late attempt to recruit Smith-Njigba, but it wasn't enough to sway him from Ohio State. Former Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher also failed to secure a commitment from the receiver in the 2020 recruiting class.
