Israeli airstrikes in Kfar Roummane, southern Lebanon, killed at least 12 people on Monday, including two children and two medics, amid escalating tensions with Hezbollah despite a June ceasefire. The strikes targeted a residential building near the Shuyuiya roundabout in Kfar Roummane shortly after midnight, injuring eight, including three children, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency and the Health Ministry. A second strike hit a vehicle carrying paramedics from the Islamic Risala Scout Association, affiliated with the Amal movement, killing one and injuring two others. The Health Ministry described the deaths as “irrefutable evidence of grave violations of international humanitarian law.”
Resident Sara Moallaem, 35, said she and her five children sheltered in a “safe room” during the attacks, noting that some of those killed were distant relatives with no known Hezbollah affiliation. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun warned that the “dangerous escalation” jeopardizes the US-brokered ceasefire and urged international pressure on Israel to halt the attacks. Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon have killed at least 27 people in the past three days, according to the Health Ministry. The situation raises questions about the future of the ceasefire and the potential for further escalation in the region.
