GametimeCT has released its week 1 girls soccer power rankings, with Greenwich taking the top spot and St. Joseph at number two. The rankings, determined by girls soccer writer Joe Morelli, consider both recent game results and past performance.
Greenwich earned the No. 1 ranking after winning its first CIAC championship in its first appearance. St. Joseph, which defeated Greenwich in the FCIAC championship last year, is ranked second. The teams faced off in the FCIAC championship, with St. Joseph winning in penalty kicks before losing in the Class LL second round at New Canaan.
The rankings also highlight upcoming matchups that could shift the standings. A game between Amity and Mercy is anticipated to reveal which team is stronger, as Amity reached the Class LL final last season and Mercy won the 2024 LL championship in the final second. Simsbury, which moved down to Class L this season, completes the top five.
Rounding out the top ten are Notre Dame Prep (sixth), Ridgefield (seventh), Farmington (eighth), North Haven (ninth), and Staples (tenth). The rankings are not based on media or coaches polls, but are solely determined by Joe Morelli each week.
