The GNOME Shotwell photo manager has been updated to version 33, featuring a significant port to the GTK4 toolkit. This release, arriving after a period of point releases since April 2023’s version 0.32, focuses on modernizing the user interface and improving stability.
The most notable change in Shotwell 33 is the transition from GTK3 to GTK4. Beyond the UI overhaul, the update introduces support for opening URIs directly within the viewer. Reworked printing functionality and fixes for various memory leaks and potential crashes are also included. A variety of other minor enhancements and bug fixes round out the improvements.
Shotwell 33.0 is now available on GNOME GitLab ahead of the GNOME 51 desktop release scheduled for next week.
