Fox News announced Thursday that Maria Bartiromo had “parted ways” with the network after more than 12 years, prompting a denial from Bartiromo’s attorney that she was fired. Bryan Freedman, Bartiromo’s lawyer, stated Friday that reports of her termination are “absolutely and unequivocally false” and that she remains employed by Fox, claiming “receipts and witnesses” will substantiate this. Fox News responded by saying its initial statement “speaks for itself.”
The dispute follows reports from Status, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal that Bartiromo was dismissed after sharing internal Fox communications with the White House. NBC News has not independently verified those reports. Bartiromo’s show pages were removed from Fox’s websites immediately after the initial announcement. She hosted “Mornings with Maria” and “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” on Fox Business, and “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News.
Bartiromo, who previously spent 21 years at CNBC, has faced scrutiny for a shift toward conservative reporting at Fox and for her close relationship with former President Donald Trump, who appointed her to the Kennedy Center board. She was also a figure in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit against Fox, and is currently a defendant in a similar suit brought by Smartmatic USA. Trump issued a statement on Truth Social expressing support for Bartiromo and criticizing Fox News for her departure.
