Mariska Hargitay hosted the Emmy Awards Monday evening, with several series taking home top honors. HBO’s “The Pitt” led nominations with 25, while “Hacks” and “Widow’s Bay” also received a significant number of nods.
“The Diplomat” won the award for Outstanding Drama Series, beating out competition including “The Gilded Age,” “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Paradise,” “The Pitt,” “Pluribus,” “Slow Horses,” and “Your Friends and Neighbors.” In the comedy category, “Hacks” earned the top prize, besting “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” “Nobody Wants This,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Shrinking,” and “Widow’s Bay.”
Netflix’s “Beef” was recognized as the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, triumphing over “All Her Fault,” “The Beast in Me,” “DTF St. Louis,” and “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.”
Individual acting awards included Sterling K. Brown for “Paradise,” Gary Oldman for “Slow Horses,” Mark Ruffalo for “Task,” Rufus Sewell for “The Diplomat,” and Noah Wyle for “The Pitt” in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category. The Lead Actress in a Drama Series award went to Carrie Coon for “The Gilded Age,” with other nominees including Chase Infiniti, Keri Russell, Rhea Seehorn, and Zendaya.
In the comedy acting categories, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won for “Wonder Man,” Steve Carell for “Rooster,” Matthew Rhys for “Widow’s Bay,” Jason Segel for “Shrinking,” and Martin. Jean Smart could win her fifth Emmy for “Hacks” and her eighth overall, which would tie her for the most Emmy wins by an actress in history. Hannah Einbinder, Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs also received supporting actor and actress nominations.
