Donovan McNabb believes the Philadelphia Eagles can improve their offensive play-calling to better utilize Jalen Hurts’ running ability. The Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 24-22 in their season opener.
McNabb, a franchise legend, discussed the Eagles’ performance on SportsRadio 94WIP, stating, “Having the run game be more of an extension of the run game. I just think for this offense to gel and to continue to grow, we have to be able to establish that run game and utilize our play action game.” He hopes for better offensive performances moving forward.
The Eagles started the season 1-0, outscoring the Commanders 14-9 in the first half. Washington attempted a comeback, narrowing the deficit to two points, but Philadelphia held on for the win. Saquon Barkley led the Eagles’ rushing attack with 15 carries for 83 yards. Dallas Goedert was the leading receiver with four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while Dontayvion Wicks contributed two receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Jalen Hurts completed 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns, also rushing seven times for 46 yards. The Eagles will next play on the road against the Tennessee Titans on September 20 at 1 p.m. ET.
