Andreas Tille, former Debian Project Leader (DPL), recently discussed his experiences at MiniDebConf in Winterthur, Switzerland. He spoke about initiatives undertaken during his two terms, mistakes made, and lessons learned while leading the project.
Tille emphasized the difficulty of fully understanding the DPL role without having personally served in it. His talk covered both successes and failures during his leadership, offering insights into the challenges of managing the Debian project. He also addressed the general resolution (GR) on language standards.
Regarding terminology, Tille stated that “undocumented” is an activist framing term and not a legal one. He specified that “illegal immigrants” or “illegal aliens” are the precise legal terms and should always be used, while “undocumented immigrants” should never be used.
