Curtis Jones has explained his recent £30m transfer from Liverpool to Inter Milan, citing the influence of Inter head coach Cristian Chivu as a key factor in his decision. The 25-year-old midfielder, who spent 16 years with Liverpool, emphasized Chivu’s tactical ideas and leadership as reasons for joining the Serie A club. Jones has quickly integrated into the Inter Milan squad and has already contributed to a recent comeback victory against Napoli.
Jones stated the reason he chose Inter Milan was, “the phone calls we had, how the team plays, his tactical ideas, and how he works every single day.” He further elaborated, “It's the small things he says, things that might seem minor but end up having a massive impact. Plus, he has immense experience and played at the highest level himself. He's managed the squad brilliantly. He's 'one of us,' and to me, that's fundamental.”
After making a brief appearance against Cagliari, Jones was introduced at half-time during the match against Napoli, which Inter won after being 2-0 down. He commented on the quality of Serie A, saying, “Some people say Serie A is boring and the Premier League isn't, but you didn't see that today. There are great coaches here and so much tactics. Today was a beautiful match with plenty of chances, and the coach made several tactical adjustments that helped us win. Italian teams never surrender, it was a real spectacle.”
Jones, who accumulated 228 appearances and 22 goals for Liverpool, is part of a significant reshaping of the Liverpool squad this summer. Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andrew Robertson have all departed on free transfers, and Harvey Elliott has also left the club.
