The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 13-9 on Saturday, continuing their strong offensive performance after scoring 20 runs the previous night. Jackson Chourio led off the game with a walk, followed by Brice Turang’s 19th home run of the season.
The Brewers quickly extended their lead in the first inning with a two-run home run by Garrett Mitchell, making the score 4-0. Eugenio Suarez hit a home run for the Reds in the first inning, and Elly De La Cruz added a double in the third. Juan Brito then hit a three-run home run in the fourth to tie the game 5-5. Brewers starter Shane Drohan allowed five hits and five earned runs in 3.2 innings, stating, “I think I was 15 of 17 on first pitch strikes, I was getting in good counts, then just throwing terrible two-strike pitches.”
The Brewers responded in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run by William Contreras, bringing the score to 8-5. They continued their offensive onslaught in the fifth, with Cooper Pratt, Chourio, Turang, Christian Yelich, and Contreras all reaching base before Mitchell hit a two-RBI double. Mitchell finished the game 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs and was a triple shy of the cycle.
Brewers relievers Chad Patrick, DL Hall, and Antonio Senzatela held the Reds scoreless until the eighth inning, when Kyle Harrison allowed two hits and was replaced. The Reds scored in the eighth, but the Brewers maintained their lead to win 13-9.
