Bon Appétit editors have found a reusable alternative to traditional deli containers in Anyday’s Anydeli line. The silicone containers mimic the shape and sizes of standard deli containers – half-pint, pint, and quart – but offer improved durability and functionality.
The popularity of deli containers among food professionals stems from their convenient, inexpensive nature and universal lid size. However, these containers are not designed for long-term reuse, degrading with dishwasher and microwave use. Anyday’s Anydeli containers address this issue with a silicone construction and a steel rim for added stability. They also feature volumetric measurements on the side.
Testing revealed the Anydeli containers provide a surprisingly tight seal, resisting leaks even when inverted and shaken with water. Unlike traditional deli containers which become brittle and crack when frozen, the silicone containers are flexible and accommodate expansion. While the containers may stain from highly pigmented foods like turmeric, this is largely unnoticeable when the containers are full, and Anyday offers colorful variations to mitigate discoloration.
The containers do not nest as neatly as plastic containers, and tape does not adhere well to the silicone. However, editors found permanent marker can be used for labeling and easily scrubbed off. While potentially expensive for professionals who use large quantities of deli containers, the Anydeli containers offer a durable, reusable solution.
