Belkin has introduced its first power banks utilizing semi-solid-state battery technology, claiming a lifespan up to three times longer than traditional power banks. The new accessories, featuring what Belkin calls BoostSolid Cell technology, aim to address concerns about battery degradation, overheating, and inconsistent power delivery.
The company states the new power banks are “engineered to last up to 3x longer than other power banks” through the addition of a “gel-like layer” alongside the liquid electrolyte found in standard lithium-ion batteries. BoostSolid Cell technology also reduces the risk of overheating, swelling, or fires, and maintains consistent power delivery across varying temperatures. While more expensive than comparable models, Belkin argues the extended lifespan justifies the price premium.
Two models are available. The UltraCharge Pro Slim Magnetic Power Bank 5K Qi2 15W with BoostSolid Cell retails for $69.99. Belkin claims it is 40 percent slimmer than other 5,000mAh power banks and can magnetically attach to compatible devices, wirelessly delivering up to 15W of power. It also features a USB-C port for 22.5W charging, though simultaneous wireless and USB-C charging reduces output to 5W and 12W, respectively.
The larger UltraCharge Pro Power Bank 10K 60W with BoostSolid Cell and Display is priced at $89.99 and offers a 10,000mAh capacity. It is also slimmer than competing 10,000mAh options due to the increased energy density of the semi-solid-state battery. The power bank can output up to 60W via USB-C, but this drops when charging up to three devices using its two USB-C and one USB-A ports. A display shows charge level, power output, and internal temperature.
