The Asahi Linux project has announced support for Apple’s M3-series Macs. The new support brings functionality comparable to that available on M1 and M2 series machines.
Asahi Linux now supports M3-series chips via its installer. Supported features include the webcam, internal microphones, USB (up to 10 Gb/s), hardware accelerated video decoding with AV1 support, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
Currently, full DCP support and the GPU remain as major exceptions. While progress is being made on the GPU, users should not expect performant or power-efficient 3D acceleration at this time. Further details regarding current limitations of M3 support are available in the project’s blog post.
